WHERE CHAMPIONS ARE MADE — Environmental Graphics + Wayfinding System Team: pRESTIN artis
Challenge: University of Washington's athletic facilities lacked cohesive wayfinding and spatial identity. Despite serving Olympic-level and D1 athletes, the environment felt disconnected and difficult to navigate. As both a designer and D1 athlete who trained in these spaces daily, I recognized the gap between the caliber of athletes and the quality of their environment.
Solution: Designed a comprehensive wayfinding and environmental graphics system including custom pictograms, modular signage architecture, spatial storytelling installations, and user journey mapping for three distinct audiences (athletes, staff, visitors). The system balances athletic identity with functional clarity.
Impact: System establishes visual consistency across 50+ facility touchpoints, improves navigation clarity for 800+ student athletes, and transforms underutilized spaces into branded environments that reinforce UW Athletics' competitive identity.
What if the spaces I train in reflected the same level of pride, identity, and passion that I compete with? That question became the foundation for this capstone.
